The President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, said that the crash of a crowded train which occurred due to derailment, has killed more than 70 people and wounded over 600 more. This train accident has been blamed on the Government for failing to provide good roads and adequate public facilities for the citizens of Cameroon.
The train was packed with people because rains had washed out a road that was frequently used by commuters and a bridge on the road connecting the two cities had also collapsed after heavy rain.
On his Facebook page, Biya, who is presently not in the country wrote:
“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the #CAMRAIL train derailment in #Eseka. …”I instructed the government to provide full assistance to the survivors.”
The death toll is believed to be rising as some of the victims are said to have been identified by their families. However, the main cause of the train derailment is being investigated.
